FAQ’s

What should I look for when I hire a freelance writer?

Everyone’s needs are different; however, there are a few common factors that everyone appreciates in a good business relationship.

*Check references and ask for samples of a writer's work. A good business person should have no problem supplying either one.

*Discuss expectations upfront. Do you appreciate daily updates or need your hand in the mix to create a collaborative effort? Do you want the writer to run solo until the project is complete?

*Ask the writer what his or her policy is regarding your satisfaction.

*Your writer should look for your input and adapt the changes you desire without additional charges to a flat project fee. If you change the parameters of the project, discuss the change in fees up front so there are no surprises to either party.

*Make sure your relationship is clearly defined including deadlines, fees and deliverables, communication, and final use of the work product.

What are your qualifications?

My portfolio includes hundreds of published ads and magazine articles in addition to private work for individuals and corporations.

Please specify your project type and I will provide you with a scrubbed (*all identifiers have been removed) sample that will demonstrate my capabilities to you. I ghost write columns for a host of professionals and write extremely effective ads. Some of my clients include government contracts, medical professionals, Realtors®, designers, retailers, private business owners, self-employed individuals, students, job or school applicants, and non-profit organizations.

Do you require a contract?

Straightforward and short projects such as resumes or advertising copy will simply require an upfront payment. Long-term copy needs will require a contract stating the specific terms agreed upon prior to the commencement of the project.

How do you charge?

Rates are flexible and vary based on your project’s parameters. Please let me know what your writing assignment entails and I will provide you with a reasonable estimate. Most writers charge based on a fee per word or page, a flat rate for a specified project, or bill by an hourly rate. We’ll determine what is most economically feasible for you.

Editing and proofreading require full advance payment while larger projects will call for a retainer and installments as the project progresses.

What are your payment options?

Payments are accepted through PayPal unless we decide upon a long-term writing arrangement, in which case other options are available.

How do we communicate?

I am available to meet in person or communicate by telephone, email, or webcam.
We will communicate about your project in detail at any time. I am available during a variety or both traditional and non-traditional hours to meet your needs and I respond to all correspondence in a timely manner.

Do I own rights to the work?

Yes, you will retain all rights to the work once it is paid in full. I may post samples of my work for you in my portfolio if it is not private (resumes, applications), ghost-written, confidential, or proprietary. Most clients enjoy seeing their work in my showcase because it increases traffic to their service or business.

How do I know the work is original?

All text will pass plagiarism programs such as Copyscape. If you would like me to retain any of the original wording in the *copy you send me, you must also send explicit permission from the author to do so. If you author the text yourself, please state that I may retain your wording in the copy.

I will work based on the information you provide me or ask me to research. Sole responsibility for the content rests on the client who provides the facts or implements the copy.

*Copy is a term writers use to describe text. It does not refer to duplicating/plagiarizing something that has already been written by someone else.

How do we get started?

Use the contact sheet to tell me about your writing needs and how to contact you. All of your information will be held in strict confidence.
